An article in the NST caught my attention recently. The article mentions that the Selangor government has banned the use of the 1Malaysia logo in advertisements. Why? Because they say it is a political symbol and should only be used during the election period. A guy who used the logo on the signboard of his convenience shop was told bring down the sign recently. See that, convenience shop. Kedai runcit. Wanna sell Gardenia bread or santan or maggi mee also susah.

This was the reason given for the sudden ban:
"Such advertisements are only allowed during election time. We don't want to create uneasiness among the public. Some people may even get upset when they see such symbols"

Damn stupid right? Who would get upset seeing the 1Malaysia logo?

I also noticed that RTM newsreaders will always start the news by saying "Salam 1Malaysia" regardless of what language the news is in. What a greeting. Doesn't make sense.

For me and most of the other young people I know, these words are just something extra we can use in our daily jokes. Remember these lines: "Ingatlah orang tersayang" or "Anda mampu mengubahnya"? I'm sure you have heard at least one of these lines used in a joke. Right?

Anyway Christmas is coming, so Merry Christmas dan ingatlah orang tersayang.

Drift Drift 2

Sunday, 19 December I went for the second day of Formula Drift Malaysia. This time its two cars on the track at the same time. Imagine even with one car the track is already very small now there's two! The second day started with the top 32 drivers competing to be in the top 16. The drivers still need to score points like the previous round but now there is one more criteria: the closer you are to the leading car the more points you get. Each driver will lead for one round and then follow for the other round. So if you are the leading driver then you pretty much have to do the same thing like in the first day, go around the track and get as many points as possible. But if you are the following driver then you have one extra thing to keep in mind, stay as close as possible to the car in front.

Most of the time the cars will spin out or crash and not complete the race, but when they do complete the race, it's damn cun. The cars will be really really close to each other, especially at the lollipop turn. Too bad for me there were too many people there on that day, can't really see whats happening most of the time, can't take pictures of the race also.

After the top 32 race, everybody was allowed to meet the drivers and get their autographs. Plus we got to see the cars up close.

I didn't stay till the end though, so I didn't see who won. Had to leave early because got football match at 7 o'clock, Kajang Christmas Cup. On that day, I not only went to see the drift event, I also got two medals! yay!

One was for the "Larian Koperasi 1Malaysia" which I went with Chi Liang in the morning. 7km in 42 minutes. And we got the medal even though we started 5 minutes late. The second medal was for the football match. Although I have to admit I didn't do much because most of my team members were already experienced players who joined other football leagues. So two medals in one day, one in the morning and one at night, and a slight sunburn from the afternoon's drift event.

Another car story from me, Formula Drift Malaysia 2010!!!

I went to check out this competition with my friends today and I have to say it was awesome!!! The tickets was quite expensive, RM 34 for 2 days, Saturday and Sunday. Today was just the first day where they did a few practice rounds early in the day and then after three o'clock, the preliminary round began.

What happened was, 40 plus racers from different countries had two chances each to go around the track and earn as much points as possible. Then the top 32 drivers will race on the second day; the others, bye bye. Points are given based on 3 criteria:

1. Line (how close the cars are to the border of the track)
2. Angle (the more 90 degrees you are to the track the better)
3. Speed (the faster the better)

The drifts were so cool especially when the cars go really really fast (more than 100 km/h when they enter the drift) and when they were really really close to the wall. It was really damn cun!!! The sound of the really loud engines, the popping and flaming exhaust plus the smell of burnt rubber and white smoke coming from the tires was very very satisfying. Not forgetting the skills.

But I also saw some accidents. Nothing serious but it happened right in front of my eyes. Just two or three meters in front of me.

There was a nineteen year old guy from Indonesia who joined the race with a car he just bought yesterday. How daring is that? But during his first run, he went all out, accelerating so fast that he crashed. Luckily his car was still ok so in his second run he managed to get a decent score despite his lack of experience with drifting and with the car. Really respect the fella lah.

If there's models in motorshows, then there's pit girls in drift racing. But too bad today not much, only myeg girls and Goodyear tire girls. Surprisingly Myeg got these girls, I didn't know our government approved mini skirts. Haha. I think tomorrow there will be more pit girls for the final round. Hot hot...

I might be going for the next round, heard there's gonna be a different racing format. Fast cars, can't wait.

KLIMS

Have you heard of the KL International Motor Show 2010? Well I went to check it out on the 10th of December and I think it was just alright. Not as gempak as I thought it would be. Didn't see as many cool concept cars as I expected. For example Nissan mostly showed their production cars, Naza had all the expensive ones like the Lambo, Peugot, Porsche but it was out of reach so can only see from far, tak syok la like that.

The best booth for me was proton's. Why? Because you can see all their cars up close and even sit in some of them. Their new concept cars was quite cun, especially the Lekir, Tuah and Emas.

Other than cars there will always be models at these shows but in this show most of the models were just ok. I think Nissan used their own workers as models dunno how to smile properly also. But to me the best was the Chevrolet models. Memang cun (Sorry no pictures, I'm not the type of person who run around with cameras. All the pictures here are taken by my friend using my phone after his phone ran out of battery). But pity some of them have to stand there so long putting on a fake smile. And I saw one guy with a dlsr camera, zooming nicely at the models' body. Zoom zoom zoom snap. Misuse of technology. Haih...

A lot of people had dslr cameras on that day actually, all running around so fast taking so many photos, simply snap snap only. Never really appreciate the cars. Few seconds at one car, take some pictures (of the car and models) then walk off. I don't know why but I feel like they're a bit of a show off. Haha.

Bumblebee was there but he only stood still. The Batmobile was there as well but like shit only. Looks damn fake plus they kept it far inside so doesn't feel grand. These two are just there to attract people to come to the show I think. Nothing great.

Aunty Aunty

I read an interesting article in the NST yesterday (1st December 2010). Apparently, some casinos in Singapore are providing free transport for Malaysians to go gamble in their casinos. Not only got free transport, got shopping voucher, got free lunch plus 40 bucks pocket money. Good offer right? And guess who are the people joining this 'free' trip. Mostly old aunties from Johor. See how Singapore's casino work, they fork out a bit of cash to bring these aunties in, then take their money just like that from the mahjong table. And then next week, they'll just do it again. And then these aunties will happily go on another a 'free' trip to Singapore, eat more 'free' food, get another 'free' 40 bucks then lose more money. But then, at least transport free what, so nevermind lah. See, smart ah these Singaporeans.
