NewYear NewYear

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!!!

So, if a picture is worth a thousand words... then... nah 15000 words for you.. haha.. enjoy! CNY festival in CU-Boulder:

Thats a new lion dance costume. There was some kind of officiating ceremony for it in the beginning.

There were 6 lions that night. Including a lion cub.

Although I live in Malaysia, I have never seen this
kind of high flying lion dance in person before

A Taiwanese aboriginal dance.

She was doing a Deng LiJun song. Dunno who that is though.

Leng luis playing tradisional instruments.

These 2 fellas are doing some acrobatic performance. Damn bloody cun.
So much strength. They're wearing white, that's why cannot see properly

American high school kids singing Chinese songs.

Ribbon dance. This one also damn stylo. First with blue ribbon...

...then with red ribbon.

This one damn gempak! Face changing performance. There was one part where he shook hands with some audience from the front row and changed his face right in front of their face! I was seating just there in front and still I can't tell whats happening. He didn't use any cloth to cover, just shook his head and poof! different face

~Everybody likes Kung Fu fighting!~

He just got up from a bed of nails. After someone smashed concrete on his chest.

Small kids and violins.

Peacock dance. Banyak gelek.

There was more but I left early. Couldn't sit there for 4 hours. Anyway, Happy CNY again!!!

Songlap Songlap

I've been watching a few malay movies recently after listening to this here and I think the new ones are pretty good. A lot of improvements from last time. But you also have to know which actors or which directors to watch out for.

The best of these movies that I watched has to be Songlap. Really really really really REALLY good. And you might want to checkout Kami The Movie, same director.

Songlap

Its about two brothers who are in the business of selling babies. Illegally. But another big theme is family. You'll really feel it when you watch the movie. One part I really liked was when Am asked Hawa what she wanted to do with her baby. It will make you think. What would you do?

The videography(?) was damn cun, storyline was tight and the script was very natural. Its not the skema malay that you write in the karangan or the gedik type that you see in some lame romantic comedies. Its very very natural, which makes the movie much more believable.

I was paying attention to the movie the whole time. I moved around in my seat only to realize later on that I'm sitting in some funny way. Thats because the movie sucks you in. Which is a good thing.

The issues in the story are very real and you get to see KL like you've never seen it before. Download link can be found from this video(Click the watch on youtube button). HIGHLY recommended. 10 out of 10.

Another cun movie is "Cun". They use Kedah malay so its very natural as well. Respect to Nadiya Nisaa who played Manis, a girl with autism (i think), very well. And the story damn sempoi. Just like the setting of the movie, Kampung Mata Ayer. Get it at this link. Also HIGHLY recommended. Here's the song/trailer. Lepak only the tune.

Circus Circus

I just went for a Cirque du Soleil show and I have to say that it was damn bloody cun. Stylo habis!

The show is called "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour". Michael wasn't there obviously, but the Cirque du Soleil crew used his music in their performances. It was held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, home of the Denver Nuggets basketball team.

Pepsi Center, Denver

Me and Raymond got the cheapest seats available (50 bucks) but we could still enjoy the show although the legroom was as if you're seating in a bus.

The view from our seats. The show was just starting

Anyway, the crew was damn professional, the dancers, the musicians, the stage people all did their job perfectly. Respect.

The highlight of the show for me were the light suits (pun intended), like the one in StepUp 3. Damn stylo. And then there's a guy who only has one leg, but he can breakdance like nobody's business. With crutches. There's also one part where they changed the entire stage into some sort of trampoline and no one knew or saw them doing it. We only realized the trampoline thingy when one of the dancers was thrown up and let to bounce of the floor on his belly. Respect the crews, like ninjas.

The light shows, the fireworks, the high flying moves kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. And the best songs for me were smooth criminal, I want you back and bilie jean. The dances that they did during these songs were really really really good.

The end. See Michael Jackson on the curtains?

If you get the chance to watch a Cirque du Soleil show I'd highly recommend you watching it. Music, dance, acrobatics, lights, fireworks, ninja crew members. Confirm no regrets.
